Suggest you archive a load of 'Sent' emails to reduce the file size. Delete anything you no longer need. Right click on 'Sent' folder and select 'compact'

Then check your Anti-virus product as it may be scanning the file and this takes a while, so timing out. Test:

  • Start computer in 'Safe mode with networking'
  • Start Thunderbird
  • Try sending file with attachment.
  • Report back on results.

What sort of size of attachment are you talking about?
