I am new to Thunderbird. I created an account for GMAIL. The files within GMAIL, as shown on Thunderbird, included two archive files. One named Archives, which seems to be created by Thunderbird; and another named Archive, which is from GMAIL. When ever I archive in Thunderbird it is sent to Thunderbird's archive and never appears in the GMAIL archive. Why is this being done? It seems redundant. I need to look in two places for my archived email. I want my archived mail to go to my GMAIL archive only: how do I set this up?

I'm the person you originally posted this question. First of all my problem was with HOTMAIL not Gmail. Sorry for the mix up. Stans reply will only get you so far. The documentation he is referring to is not clear on how to deal with this situation. The section of the article deals with Copies and Folders panel. This panel contains Message Archives section. This is the section that needs to be adjusted. Choose the "Other" option. Press the down arrow to get your options. Pick the one that is your email address. When you choose your email address, it will give you a list of files in your email account. Choose Archive NOT Archives. This should setup everything. I believe that this needs to be mentioned in Thunderbird documentation.

I intentionally gave you the link only, without spoon-feeding you the exact part of that article and what you specifically need to change because I wanted you to get familiar with the account settings that Tbird has to offer since you're new to it. It hopefully will help you with additional "how do I set this up?" questions. I also encourage you to explore the many other articles that are available via the F1 (Thunderbird Help) menu to get a good grasp of what Tbird has to offer.
