In seems in the last month, the ability to open links in a new tab by middle-clicking has been removed by default. I was able to get it to work in Windows (but I don't remember how), but not in Ubuntu. I've got browser.tabs.opentabfor.middleclick set to true in the about:config. I've also tried restarting with all the add-ons disabled.

Try the Firefox version from the official Mozilla server if you currently use a version from the repositories of your Linux distribution.

That made no difference. I also tried restarting w/addons disabled. BTW, Ubuntu 16 just upgraded it to 82.0 and that didn't make a difference either.
