I down loaded Firefox, and the search bar says I will be searching in Google. Is the way it works? Am I still protected by firefox when I search in Google?

Firefox includes several search options, but Google pays Mozilla to be the default option in many parts of the world. If you do not want Google to see your searches, you can change to another search service such as Bing or DuckDuckGo. More info: Change your default search settings in Firefox.
