I am using IMAP and set sync 30 days emails only, but I still see all the emails (back to several years ago) in the local drive. How can I keep 30 days email only on the local drive, i.e. automatically remove emails older than 30 days from the local drive, but keep them remotely? Thanks.

The index of all mail will appear in Thunderbird. You can set the local storage in account settings, but in all honesty you will not be able to see if it works unless you consider significantly slowed display times as evidence there is no local copy.
