Gmail won't switch accounts

I've used gmail (with multiple email accounts) on Firefox for many, many years. I switch back and forth between my email accounts daily.

In the past few weeks, though, when I try to switch from my primary account to the others, it just defaults back to the primary. I've purged the cache, I've signed out and signed in. This does not happen on Chrome, just Firefox, which is why I've brought it here.

If I change the URL of the mailbox

https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#inbox

to

https://mail.google.com/mail/u/1/#inbox

It will take me to another mailbox. I can then change that number to get to the others. But it shouldn't be that way. So ... what is going on? How do I fix it?

Thanks, stripping out FB Purity seems to have helped me here; things are working normally at the moment. Thanks for helping out!

I already do that, and it just bounces me right back to my default account. This is the problem.

As noted in the original question, it doesn't happen in other browsers, which is why I'm asking about in a Firefox forum.

98.0.2 It auto updates, and says it's the most recent version.

Thanks, love to hear what you find out.

I was about to say that this wasn't happening to me when it happened...

I am not alone! (Though I am sorry it's happening to you, too.)

It seems to be a cookie issue as when I inspect it, the link shown is correct Maybe enhanced protection or something else is blocking the referral?

I just tried it on Private Browsing and everything worked fine. The problem is sometimes it works fine on not-private browsing, and then without any changes it flips out again.

When you say enhanced protection might be blocking the referral, can you explain what that means? Ad blockers? something else?

TY!

It appears to be functioning for me again.

It might've been the browser blocking the redirect or something similar.

I turned off a couple of extensions, no dice. I'll try some more and see what happens.

It seems that FB Purity may be the culprit here. I also saw a glitch with LastPass, but it hasn't repeated. Will report back tomorrow if I see anything else wonky.

I'm having this exact same problem, but I don't have the FB Purity extension, so I don't think that's it. Running FF 99.0.1, although this has been happening for a week or so. It is definitely changed behavior, as I switch accounts on a daily basis and have only had problems recently. For now, the only way to get around this is using a Private window, which is less than ideal (for obvious reasons). Are there any other extensions or settings that could cause such behavior?

Hey, it's happening again to me, even w/o FB Purity. And it's really random -- it'll work fine in the AM and then by the afternoon it won't work. I have zero ideas!

Same problem here - no FB purity. It was working perfectly fine for years, with the very same set of Gmail accounts and same set of active extensions. Yet, for last few weeks it's going nuts. It still does work sometimes but usually I need to try to switch multiple time until it "kicks in".

There's no such problem with Chrome. Something must have changed in last FF updates...

This may be the browser blocking the redirection which allows you to go to another inbox, as when I look at the source code, the link given is correct. This may also be caused by some cookies just messing up. Only current workaround is to change the link manually.

That's been my experience, but man is it a dumb thing to have to do!
