suggestion for master password
Hello. I just created a master password to protect my website passwords. However, this master password is required to start a session with Firefox. My suggestion is that you do not require the master password to start a Firefox session, only to access the passwords information, or to create and remember a login password for a new website. It is a hassle to enter the master password every time I want to use Firefox. Or should I keep firefox open the entire day?

Hello again Chris, I could not help but to try your suggestion in a little free time I had this morning. And yes, it was a VPN Extension that was causing the issue. I disabled the extension and now I am able to have many sessions with Firefox without having to enter the Primary Password at the beginning of each session. Thank you for your help. Problem solved!

Hi mcrick07, From your wording, I get the impression that you think you are directly contacting developers or Mozilla employees. You are not. This is a community support forum. The people that answer questions here are users just like you, volunteering their time.
If you want to leave feedback for Firefox developers, go to the Help menu and select Share Ideas and Feedback.
Having said that, Firefox will not ask for your primary password until it needs access to your stored passwords. If you're being prompted at the beginning of each session, I suspect that you have third-party software triggering this behaviour. Could you try the solutions in the following article and see if any of them help: Firefox keeps asking me for Primary Password
Hi Chris, Thank you for your reply. I tried the "solutions" on the article that you mentioned and they did not help. Everytime I start a new session with Firefox, I am being asked for my Primary Password.
I have Firefox version 101.0.1 (64-bit) and use macOS Monterey 12.4.
Not too much to see here. see attached image.
I guess the image did not upload. will try again here.
uploading images does not work. It gets stuck in "uploading "filename.jpg"
Are you using Sync as this is a possible reason to ask for the Primary Password on startup ?
Using Sync is a possible reason to ask for the Primary Password at startup. This is because the credentials to login to the Sync account are stored in the Password Manager and you need to enter the Primary Password to unlock the passwords and connect/login to the Sync account.
Hi Cor-el,
No, I am not using Sync.
How about thinking about the possibility that Firefox has a bug regarding the Primary Password?
If you start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode, does the problem still occur? To start in Troubleshoot Mode, go to Help > Troubleshoot Mode.
If the problem does not occur in Troubleshoot Mode, then you can disable your extensions one-by-one until you find out which one is causing the problem. For more info, visit Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems.
Hi Chris, Thank you for your reply and for trying to help me. I decided that this issue is not so important to me since I don't have any important passwords in Firefox. And I really have very little time to continue pursuing this issue. So thank you all for your help.

I had the same problem for the past view months and following the suggestion of disabling my (Surfshark) VPN Firefox extension, the problem was immediately fixed! Firefox might want to contact Surfshark to alert them about this problem caused by their extension. Thank you,
