I have tried in firefox Preferences to change the applications for file extensions when I download files. I do not want doc or other microsoft files to open aiutomaticaly in Pages, Numbers etc.. I want to use Open Office but Pages and Numbers are the default and it will not change no matter what I do,. Any ideas or help for this problem?

On the first page of Settings under Applications have you tried selecting Always ask? (OpenOffice is given as an option in my settings.) Below, in theory, is a way to change download actions.
