FireFox just updated itself to the latest version (127.0.1 (64 bit)) on my Windows 10 laptop. Now every time I try to close it, instead of closing, it starts a background process and then crashes after about 25 seconds.

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A list of Submitted (and Unsubmitted, if any) Crash Reports will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Submitted Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

There are no submitted crash reports. There are two unsubmitted reports: 5de3121c-5aa7-491d-85e4-c9c96f643387 9d8d5820-4925-4720-9238-68a6e8e32d4b

I'm pressing the "Submit All" button now.

Now the report IDs are: bp-44218116-ec13-43db-b664-a6eaa0240622 bp-af559088-4824-422c-8f82-1bd970240622

Also, I have no idea why, but the problem seems to have gone away, at least for the moment.

Hi

That you for that, really useful.

Would I be right in thinking you use Avast antivirus on your computer?

It looks like a small file related to that software may be causing the problem. I recommend that you make sure that Avast is fully up to date as they may have released a fix for this issue.

Thanks, Paul. I appreciate your help.

I don't know what Avast is. I use AVG antivirus.

How about opening Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode, then close it to see if you have the same issues.

Are you running pro or home version of Windows? If pro, you should have sandbox enabled for testing. https://www.howtogeek.com/399290/how-to-use-windows-10s-new-sandbox-to-safely-test-apps/
