Thunderbird tag colors NOT using Cards View

Thunderbird (128) stopped showing colored backgrounds for tags some time ago. I read about possible bugs, about creating a specific css for colorizing the tag background for Cards View but i'm not using Cards view and I can't find a setting that affects tag backgrounds. Acording to one fix the default is colored backgrounds, so i did a complete reinstall and nothing changed. Everything is the default...still no colored tag background. Can someone please help. thanks

Thunderbird creates a colored tag on lower edge of entry in message list view for card view. background colors are only available with CSS, which is not supported (but works until some future time when it doesn't)
