Using Windows 7. Watching a DVD and clicked on a link to view streaming video which cut off the DVD. From then on all streaming video links are automatically downloaded in Firefox instead of immediately launching Windows Media Player

Make sure that the WMP is still set as the default program for that file extension. You need to check that in the WMP options or right-click a file in Windows Explorer and use Open with to set the default program.

I had the same problem with all streaming video links downloading before playing in ALL browsers.

The fix was as follows :

Control panel > Default Programs > Set your default programs > Windows Media Player > Set this program as default > OK

Hope this helps anyone else with this problem.
