I have a new hard drive, running XP. It has both an old Adobe Reader 4 and a newly installed Reader 9. When I tried to look at pdf files on some web sites, my screen went black, then white anywhere from 20-30 seconds later. I can read existing pdf's both on & offline. I can also read them from these sites on IE.

Thanks - I've printed both links [to PDF] and will work with them. Will post the [hopefully happy] results. jm

The links didn't give the solution - but led to it. Following the "open PDF files" instructions, nothing worked until I went to re-install the plug in. At the cut-n-paste step, I discovered that there was no Firefox on my C drive. I'd been working from the one on my "E" drive - which is my old hard drive that my tech left on the computer "just in case" I needed anything for my new C drive. I installed Firefox on the new C drive and things are fine. Again, many thanks. jm
