I turned off cookies in FF 3.6 and cannot turn them back on even though I read all the info about enabling cookies, deleting history and reinstalled FF. Now I have to use IE to get into my Gmail account.

Did you check the cookie exceptions?

Yesss, I removed the block on www.google.com which apparently was inhibiting my Gmail account from using the required cookies. Thank you for this very helpful answer! Granby in middle of nowhere, Vermont.
