On about 80% of the pages I am on, my back button and my refresh button will not work. The back button will not recognize that I have been to previous pages in the same tab, and my refresh button will just do nothing (the shortcut keys 'backspace' and 'f5' also do nothing). Some pages, like this one, work fine, but most others do not. I can't think of what it is that is causing it.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in Safe mode:

  • Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

This can also be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
