Yesterday I have updated my Firefox to 4.0.1 and after that the padlock sign never showed up. Today I have removed and reinstalled Firefox 4 but no change. However the padlock sign is intact with Internet Explorer.

The whole status bar was redesigned, so now you use the area to the left of the address (green, blue, or plain) to check whether the site is secure.
