cannot get online with firefox 5 OR uninstall it

I cannot get online with firefox 5. When I try to uninstall it I am told to close firefox, as it will not even open I cannot close it.

I appreciate your suggestions but they ALL depend on being able to open Firefox even in "safe mode" I cannot even open firefox to implement the suggestions

Thank you feer56. Closing Firefox through the task manager seems to have solved the problem for now. I appreciate the help.
