Problem solved when I inadvertently reloaded ver. 6. I did not uninstall previous version, and I somehow ended up at ver 2.0 for awhile! Managed to delete that and eventually ended up at a working broswer -though not entirely sure what happened. (It also asked me to update Flash, which I had just done yesterday, but did again...)

I thought I had lost the bookmarks, but using the import bookmarks button, I could use the ones from several days ago.
