I have a 6 year old computer with 512MB of RAM and I am worried that if I upgrade from 3.6 to 8.0 Firefox will be too slow.

Should I keep using 3.6 for as long as possible? I have been very happy with Firefox 3.6. I have a Compaq Presario computer.

My opinion is to get more RAM. I found 512MB to be too little for Firefox 3, and I rarely have multiple windows open and rarely more that 10 tabs open.

Try Firefox Portable first, and then if the Portable works to your satisfaction think about about upgrading to 8.0. Firefox Portable won't mess with your current Firefox installation, it installs completely separate.

As far as Firefox 3.6 goes, it will probably be around for another 5 months or so as a currently supported version, as far as security updates are concerned.
