i am unable to download any files. after selecting to download the files it "downloads them" in the downloads list but never actually downloads the file to any directory.

i followed all of the suggestions found here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Unable%20to%20download%20or%20save%20files?as=aaq#w_reset-the-download-folder

still no improvement. any assistance would be appreciated. I will be using opera for downloads until i can find a resolution to this.

You have to set your AV. Try to exclude the extension .part in your AV, Firefox creates temporary .part file during a download.

Your antivirus application is surely blocking downloads from Firefox. Try about:config > browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone = false.

That fixed it. Any idea what would have caused that to "change"?
