Sounds ridiculous but the 'Search' window is there but does not function!

I've only just downloaded Firefox for the first time. It worked fine at first then noticed Bearshare.com had sneaked in as default address on Homepage. Went into Tools-Options-Restore to Default.

That got rid of 'Bearshare' but from then on the search facility has died! I type in any word, hit 'Search' and absolutely nothing happens.

Does the issue still occur if you start Firefox in Safe Mode? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode
