I found that the plugin container for Firefox will not work with the Real media plugin. It crashes every time. Firefox itself handles the plugins just fine, so I bypassed the plugin container for that plugin by adding a setting in the about:config window setup.

  • dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.i386.<name of plugin> - set to false

You can find the names of the plugins by typing about:plugins into the address bar and hitting the Return key. Another thing you can do is set Firefox to hand off to the Real Player as a helper application to play the media, from Options > Applications.
