Hmm, a quick google for wingdings and webdings shows a lot of people having trouble with these fonts, and almost as many people somewhat naïvely advising their use, without understanding that these character sets are not web-safe.

The discussion there talks about web pages, but when you use HTML to format a document it's somewhat moot as to whether it's a web page or an email message.

I use unicode and abcTajpu for such things.
