1) I've tried to register my new email address and can't find a way to do that. Sign In doesn't work for this. Cannot find a "Register" function. 2) Three days ago my TB slowed way down and each task takes about 10X the normal time. I keep getting the message "TB not responding." After a while, this clears but then the next task takes 10X the normal time also. I'm receiving and sending email fine. All else looks normal. I have no viruses. I cleared out my Sent file, thinking this would give me more space, but that has not worked. Nothing else has changed on my desktop to slow TB down. Can you help? Thanks!

Wrt the "TB not responding" problem, what is your anti-virus software?

To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try one of the following:

  • Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.
  • Restart the operating system in safe mode with Networking. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, OSX
If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.

I have McAfee thru Time Warner. I spoke with both TW and McAfee re the slowing of TB during the week of 4/7/14. McAfee is now aware of the problem is working on it. I was told today 4/15/14 that a fix was imminent.
