We recently upgraded to Win 8 and have Firefox version 29.0.1. When I enter passwords on sites I get the "remember password" box and I click "remember" however, those saved passwords are never re-filled when I return to the website. Is there some setting I am missing. It used to work on our old XP system.

You should be able to enter saved login information by double-clicking the username field, or by typing the first letter of the username.

Do you have an example of a page that's giving you trouble? Firefox won't autofill login information if the site says not to by using the autocomplete="off" attribute. You can check if that's the case by right-clicking the password field and choosing Inspect Element.

Also make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode (Never remember history).

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
  • Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"

  • In the current Firefox releases you can toggle the signon.overrideAutocomplete pref to true on the about:config page to override autocomplete=off.

Note that Firefox won't auto-fill saved form data automatically when autocomplete=off is used, so double-click the empty name field to get a drop-down list.

Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: is set to remember history but it till doesn't work. I don't understand thge last bullet poin about the override autocomplete=off. Where is that option? thanks
