try restarting from the help menu with add-ons disabled and see if that helps. That sounds very like an add-on that will not allow a change of focus.

You nailed it. Without the add-ons it works like it should. Now, I have to determine which of my add-ons is the culprit. I did update a few after I installed the latest T'bird. I don't have that many, so it should be an easy matter of disabling all and then putting them back one by one.

As a matter of interest for anyone else who may experience this problem. the culprit, in my case, is LastPass, the password manager. My usual routine every morning after boot-up is to load Firefox, invoke the LastPass plugin for Firefox, and then to load Thunderbird and answer emails. If I do things in that order, the problem shows. If, however, I load Thunderbird BEFORE signing into LastPass in Firefox via the plugin, everything runs normally. Also, once the problem shows, I can get rid of that by unloading LastPass, which is a great pain of course.

I'll report this to LastPass.

I know nothing of last pass so I may be off line, but I will guess.

Tools menu (alt+T) > add-ons Select the plugins. IF lastpass is there disable it. and see if that works.

Actually, there is a hot key to unload LastPass, which also works to remove it from memory. The pain is, however, that I have to login to LastPass each time after removing it.

Learned this morning that there is a recent update to LP that I'll install and try. Maybe it will fix the problem.

Updating to the latest version of LP (v. 3.1.40) fixed the problem with the hidden mail form in T'bird.
