Receiving read receipt from emails been saved to sent folder
My work email is through a domain. The only way we can ensure the sent emails appear is to have the setting to save outgoing emails to the sent folder. I use the read receipt feature to keep track of emails been sent to clients.
Lately though my outgoing emails have been returning a return receipt saying that I've read the email (of course I have, I just typed it...). If I turn off the setting to save outbound emails to the sent folder it stops, but I also need to keep track of when I've been sending emails. Is there a setting that I can change to stop this from happening because it's getting annoying thinking someone has read my email when it's just the one that's been popping up saying I've read it.

If you request a return receipt and send message. When person receives it, they may choose to respond in which case you would see a return receipt or are you getting a Delivery Status Notification (DSN) receipt. The purpose of DSN receipts is to let a sender know when the recipient's server received the message. This receipt may appear quickly as it is based on when the server receives the mail and not when the recipient reads and acknowledges the email in a Return Receipt.
Are you using an addon /extension which may be interfering? To test you would need to restart Thunderbird in Safe Mode. Help > Restart with addons disabled re test sending.
Can you tell me...when you create the message to send...is there anything in a header that sends a copy either cc or bcc to you?
In the Return Receipt email you received after sending email select that email, click on 'Other Actions' and select 'View source' Look for header: Disposition-Notification-To: email address Is this your email address?
Does the FROM header email address match the Disposition-Notification-To: email address ?
Does the TO header: (Cc or Bcc) email address match the FROM email address? If no what is the difference between the FROM and the TO email address?
