I want to prevent images on certain websites. I followed the advice to right-click on webpage, select VIEW PAGE INFO, then Media. I check the box that says BLOCK IMAGES. I expect to see a SAVE icon, but it says SAVE AS. That's where I'm lost. A new window opens title SAVE IMAGE, and want me to name the file as favicon and the type as Icon.

I'm puzzled as to why I have to create a file on my computer. And, is it going to put it under my FAVORITES in Windows? If I do this for different websites, must I give each site a unique file name?

I appreciate your kind advice.

You would have to check in Tools > Page Info > Media on what domain the images are hosted. It is quite possible that more than one domain is used to spread the server load. Blocking specific domains is not really recommended as other more important images (icons) could be affected as well and you may easily forget what domains you are blocking.

If you tick the box to block images from a specific domain then those image should be blocked on a next (re)load. I don't know if images that are already in the cache are blocked as well.

Isn't that happening for you?

The "Save As" button in Tools > Page Info > Media is to save the image and doesn't apply to the setting change.

cor-el, thank you for enlightening me as to the "save". I find it confusing.

I realized that I was clearing history and including site preferences. so, my "save" got lost when doing that. Now that I unchecked it, the images are gone.

nice of you to reply so soon after I posted the question. problem solved!

You're welcome.

Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.

cor-el, it seems to work ok for a certain newspaper that I read. However, I just tried it on another site, and it didn't work. The Home page is loaded with photos, and each article is, too. I re-loaded the page, same thing. I even deleted history (but not site preferences), still no good. I guess when it works, it's good for that page ONLY? And not the entire site.

You sure were right, they have several domains. I guess this block images thing is more trouble than its worth. The only reason I wanted to use it is that my laptop fan keeps turning on when I'm on these sites. I clear cache, history and no help. Between photos and ads, these sites really load it up.
