When I downloaded an important document, I accidentally chose "open with" rather than "save as" and I'm unable to re download the file to save it from the internet. I know its somewhere on my computer, but I can't find it! What temporary folder are the "open with" files saved to?

Thanks,

Kayla23

hello, such files will be stored in the default windows temp folder. you can get to it by pressing windows-key+R & opening: %temp%

Deleting the mimeTypes.rdf will reset all download actions to the default settings.

Type about:support in the address bar and press enter.

Under the page logo on the left side you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To it’s right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox.

Hello,

Neither of these solutions worked, even though I was able to follow all the directions and find the folders you both directed me to. There is a record of the file in my "Downloads" folder but it won't allow me to "Open Containing Folder".

That could mean the file is no longer there.

You would have to use an undelete utility to see if you can restore that file from the Windows temp folder where files are stored that you open instead of downloading and saving.

Note that it is best to use "Save as" in the application where you opened the file and save the file to a different folder to prevent possible dataloss.
