Flash problems on Firefox 37

I'm having problems loading Adobe Flash on SOME sites that use it. The problem began when FF 37 was installed. Speedtest.net says "configuration load failed" and xhamster.com's files won't play at all. By comparison, other flash-based video sites such as xtube.com and http://bear71.nfb.ca do work.

I've tripled checked to make sure the lastest version of Flash is installed and activated. I must also stress this issue began with Firefox 37. Prior to the upgrade everything worked perfectly. Like many of you, I too prefer HTML5 over Flash, but as you all know not every site out there sees it that way.

Any ideas?

Hello,

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. According to the Speedtest documentation (for example), corrupted cache files could be the problem. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu, choose History, and then "Clear Recent History...".
  2. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  3. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  4. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  5. Now click the "Clear Now" button.

This didn't work. Besides, I use private browsing 100% of the time which means the browser keeps no history. I also use addons such as Self Destructing Cookies to promptly kill off cookies once they're no longer necessary.

Be advised this problem began when FF was upgraded to 37. Prior to 37 everything worked perfectly. Maybe it has something to do with Mozilla's attempts to move us more to HTML5. I say this because the problem is happening on both my desktop and laptop, all after 37 was installed.

I'm thinking this is some sort of bug.

Issues were found in v37, so upgrades were suspended.

Install an older version of Firefox {web link}

It's not just Flash - Google Maps and certain Java-based programs show everything upside down as well, unless you run it in Safe Mode (which means it disables every plugin and extension)...

I've rollbacked to 36 because I can't work like that; hopefully a fix will be released at a later date.

Indeed the first thing I pointed out when this issue began is that the problem began with the release of FF37. I already tried going back to FF36 that didn't fix the problem. Apparently the damage is done. That means that one of these days I'll have to delete my entire profile and start fresh. I know it'll take forever to re-configure and reinstall all 45 addons manually, but there seems to be no other solution.
