Viewing the history of passwords that I've changed and saved

I accidentally updated the wrong password that I've keyed in the password column and I'd asked Firefox to remember the password. Hence, it has overwritten the correct password to log in to that particular site.

I can't remember the password for that site because I've been using the auto fill in function by Firefox. So, can I retrieve back the old password or can I actually view the history of passwords that I've changed for that site?

Please help.

Hello Kenjiloo

How's your day?

I don't think you can recover a password you have over written.

What website was it? Most website allow you to reset your password via email. If you can provide me with the website I will be over happy to reply to you with a direct link to reset your password, if the website has this feature.

Hi icepick, thank you for your reply.

The website is actually my company's email. Resetting the password is actually quite troublesome. The email's platform and the site are actually sharing the same log in id and password. In other words, if I were to reset the password, it will be sent to my email address which I'm not able to log in to.

So, I couldn't retrieve it either. To reset it through the main server, it requires 3 days processing time.

So, I thought if I could try my luck by retrieving the previous password from Mozilla.

"Mozilla" doesn't store user passwords, they are only on your own device -- unless you are using the Sync service where they are stored in an encrypted format on the Sync server. But even with using Sync, your password would have been overwritten to the Sync server almost immediately. And unfortunately Firefox doesn't "backup" the passwords file like it doe with bookmarks.

You could check if there is a previous version of the logins.json file. Note that this will cause you to lose any password changes made since, so backup the current version of this file so you can undo once you have checked the password.
