links are not active in .pdf documents uploaded to Wordpress.com blog when viewed in Firefox--okay in Safari

Hi, I just uploaded a .pdf file and inserted it into a post. That all worked fine. Then I click on the .pdf file and it opens. That works fine.

BUT...when I try to click on a link in the .pdf it isn't working. All of those links work when I look at the document in Adobe Reader but not after being uploaded onto my WordPress.com site.

Here's the link to the .pdf document. https://morewastematters.files.wordpress.com/2015/05/points-about-the-landfill-on-livestock-road-4may15-tinyurl-final.pdf

Here is the post where it sits. null

Any ideas how to get those links to activate?

Thanks!!!

I looked at the page . I found some links, but they aren't click-able. Also, I marked the page in the link area. Normally, the mark is unbroken from start to finish. But look carefully at my post below. There are gaps all over the place. Including in the links.

Can you post the file itself for us to look at?

Open a text / word program and load the file. Left click once. Now <Control> A to highlight everything, then <Control> C to copy it. Next have your browser go to; https://pastebin.mozilla.org. Paste <Control> P the content of the file in the window. Now press Save. The page will reload. Copy the new web address, and post it here.

That links shows as two div elements if I check them in the Inspector. The 'd's look weird for me on Linux.

The links only work in the Adobe Reader and not in any other PDF Viewer I tried on Linux, so it is likely that the links are coded in an incompatible way.

Should I copy the document from the .pdf file itself? Or the original Word document from which I created the .pdf?

Also, when I clicked your link, https://pastebin.mozilla.org, a warning popped up about it being an unsecure site? Any reason to be concerned?

Thanks!

Copy the file that you posted, with the links.

a warning popped up about it being an unsecure site?

I have never seen that on this site. Post it anyway.

Did you create the file using a PDF printer or did you create a real PDF file. If you use a PDF printer then this driver may not have created a file with clickable links. Abode reader may recognize the underlined text as a link and automatically linkify it while other PDF viewers merely show the file as a text file in PDF format.

You would have to use other software to create a real PDF file.

Hi FredMcD--is this what you need? https://pastebin.mozilla.org/8832673

Hope you find something!

Thanks.

1. In an online poll of persons affected by the landfill, http://tinyurl.com/lahdmut, 97% of the respondents describe the odor of the landfill as “strong,” “very strong,” or “overwhelming.” 2. In an online poll of person affected by the landfill, http://tinyurl.com/kpypbcg 100% of respondents replied “sometimes, often, most times or all of the time” to “how often is the landfill odor strong, very strong or overpowering?

The file that was posted is just plain text.

What is the file extension?

I copied the .pdf file just as it was when I posted it.

When I tried to look at the above in a PDF viewer, it told me it was not coded properly. But I got better results when I used a Word Program.

The PDF indicates it was created by MacOS X Quartz PDFContext. I'm not sure if that is a specific program or a service available to other programs on your OS.

Anyway, Adobe Reader/Acrobat automatically "linkifies" URLs that it discovers, and Firefox's built-in PDF viewer does not do that. You see text with the stylization of a link, but it is not actually a link.

I created a copy and assigned hyperlinks to the link text on page 3 using Adobe Acrobat. You can see the difference here: http://REMOVED

I will take that down in a few days or after you let me know you have seen it.

Thank you all for this input. I'm afraid, though, that I don't understand the implications of what you are saying. I see the link to the page with the active link (thanks, you can take that down, jscher2000.

I created the document in Word and saved it as a .pdf. I use a Mac.

Is there something else you would recommend? Is there something about Firefox that I should suggest be changed?

Thanks again.

Are the links in the Word document clickable or is this just a plain text file?

Maybe you first need to save the document as an HTML webpage (no VML code!) and then open this HTML document and do the PDF conversion with the HTML document.

Some Word add-ons can preserve links in generated PDFs. However, using a print-to-PDF conversion usually only preserves the appearance of links, and not Word's HYPERLINK field code.
