I've updated my os to windows 10. Now, No matter what I do. firefox won't change the start up page. I've refreshed, uninstalled and reinstalled with the same results. It just won't load the start up page I want. Keeps reverting to the page I entered when first setting up firefox. I've tried everything that people on the web suggest and nothing. Any suggestions? I'd hat going back to Chrome just for this reason.

Do you mean that the startup setting as you see it in "Options/Preferences > General" and in the browser.startup.homepage pref is changing?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.

Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

Check the file prefs.js by following these instructions:

  1. Close Firefox
  2. Open WordPad (or an other text editor)
  3. Open the file prefs.js in C:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile_name>.default
  4. Find the line starting with user_pref("browser.startup.homepage"

What is the value next the , in quote? If it is different from the start page you want, replace it by your URL. For example, you get: user_pref("browser.startup.homepage", "http://mozilla.org/");

If you modified anything, save changes and open a start page.

You can check the target line in the Firefox desktop shortcut (right-click: Properties) to make sure that nothing is appended after the path to the Firefox program.

You can check for problems with preferences.

Delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

Thanks for all the attempts at a solution. After days of trying to resolve this I took the last submitter's idea and just created a new user account. Problem SOLVED!

Thank you...
