After running for some time, firefox 'hangs' every 7 seconds for 3 seconds, typing, scrolling, navigating...all functions follow the 7 second pause cycle. Why?

This problem didn't seem to exist until the "free" download of Windows 10 installed. I waited too long to switch back to 8.1, now stuck with the @#$@@ software of 10. Using a 'synced' FF browser at work (win 7) I have no issues with the cyclical lag during typing, scrolling, etc. Being totally peeved with win 10, I attempted yet again to try Linux (Mint), and noticed the lag didn't seem to be there when using FF in Linux, which installed from their 'package'. This lag occurs every 7 seconds for 3 seconds of unresponsive cursor, typing keystrokes, scrolling action....whatever. Suspecting some 'add-on' of going funky, I removed ALL add-ons...no improvement. This is running on a 64 bit, 2 gig memory, relatively new machine that had no such issues until win 10.

Hello,

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You will need to restart Firefox for this to take effect so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and select Options on Windows or Preferences on Mac or Linux.
  2. Select the Advanced panel and then the General tab.
  3. Uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available.
  4. Restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

If the problem is resolved, you should check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in these Knowledge base articles:

Thank you.

If the above does not help,

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

GUIGS, tried disabling graphics hardware acceleration, did a FF restart and thought that worked....seemed to for a longer time period but the lag cycle came back with a shorter 'dead' period. However, I discovered that for some reason, FF had NOT updated itself lately (another win 10 quirk?) so 'manually' called for the latest update 41.0 and that seems to have dealt with this bug. What would have caused the lack of automatic updating? Not shutting down FF very often? I sometimes go several days on end without doing that, although several times before coming to the support group, I shut down FF and went to other browsers, which also have problems with win 10. Chrome, for instance, now crashes every time I try and close a page tab, if I have more than 2 open!

Sometimes, new updates are sent out by global sectors. But once in a while, a Firefox does not do the update on its own.

Type about:preferences#advanced<enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select Update. Check the settings.
