I had the French dictionary installed in Firefox, but want to get rid of it. I have deleted it from my Content Settings- it is no longer there as an option.

However, when I am typing, it still spell checks in French. When I right click, the French dictionaries are still an option. There does not seem to be a way to remove the dictionary/language pack.

I have already: Uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox Deleted cache, cookies, etc.

I am running on a mac, just for some background. Any suggestions please!

What dictionaries do you see in the Languages menu?

What is the value of the spellchecker.dictionary pref on the about:config page?

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

You can see which dictionary is selected if you right-click in a text area and open the Languages submenu. At least one dictionary should be installed and have a check mark to indicate that it is selected.

  • Open the "Add Dictionaries" link to install a dictionary if you do not have one.
  • Make sure that [X] "Check Spelling" in the right-click context menu is check-marked.

You can enable or disable spell checking globally:

  • Tools > Options > Advanced : General: Browsing: "Check my spelling as I type"

You can look here for dictionaries:
