I can't get Thunderbird to access my bigpond emails

I have my gmail account working but when I tried to add my bigpond account there appears to be a problem with the setting which Thunderbird got. see error message below

Sending of password for user kevinnoble99@bigpond.com did not succeed. Mail server mail.bigpond.com responded: pop operation is not allowed for this user.

Have you logged on to your webmail account using a browser and selected the option for POP Forwarding ?
