Will microsoft essentials, as installed on vista, still work after I switch to firefox?
I am switching from Vista to Firefox and want to know if Microsoft Essentials will continue to function after I make the change. MSE has preformed well for several years and I would like to avoid having to change to some other antivirus program.

Actually, you will still have Windows Vista, even if you use Firefox instead of the Internet Explorer browser (IE) that comes with Windows.
Your choice of an alternate browser doesn't require any changes to your security software. It also doesn't replace your security software. Unlike some programs that need special setup steps, Firefox and Microsoft Essentials should get along just fine.

Such security software works at the OS level and isn't restricted to a specific browser. Some third-party security software tries to add special features to Firefox, but such attempts usually do not works well as they require a lot of effort to continue to work with each Firefox version and it is usually best to avoid such additions. You should be well with using Microsoft Security Essentials and Firefox.
Both answers I received were helpful. I'm comfortable proceeding to use Firefox and relying on Microsoft Essentials for my virus protection. Thanks! wepap
