I have been working with Avast about this issue. Yesterday Avast had me update to their latest version which, according to Avast, is recognized by Mozilla's new add-on signing policy. This add-on was last updated May 20, 2015 according to the info on my browser. I cannot get the add-on to update manually or automatically (my default) on Firefox. I was going to remove it and do a new install in order to get the new Avast update, but when I went to the Add-ons on Firefox and did a search Avast did not show up. My current version of Avast Online Security is 11.1.2241, release date Nov 3, 2015 while the version showing in my browser is 10.1.0.170 with the May 20, 2015 update instead of Nov. 2015. How do I get the new version of Avast to work with Firefox? Thank you in advance to anyone who answers my request for help.

AFAIK, Avast supplies that add-on. I know it's not hosted at the Addons.Mozilla.Org website.

Your Extensions shows; Avast Online Security 10.1.0.170 (wrc@avast.com)

Totally remove the program. Reboot, then install the current.

Extensions that do not have a "Remove" button are installed by other software and are not under control of the Firefox extension manager.

  • Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions

Such globally installed extensions are usually found via a registry scan or are installed in a location that Firefox scans for installed extensions.

Extensions installed this way need to be removed via the settings (options/preferences) of the program that has added this extension or this program has to be uninstalled via "Control Panel > Programs". In Firefox you an only disable such an extension.

I worked via email with Avast. They sent me a link. When I used it and followed all the instructions, my Avast Online Security started working again. Their green icon is now showing on my toolbar. However, it is still showing that Firefox is not recognizing it when I look at my add-ons Manager. Avast is still looking into why this is happening, but other then this error in the add-ons area, Avast is working properly.

Avast sent me a new email with the following instructions. "Please remove current Avast Online Security plugin (AOS) from your Firefox (click Remove button) and then repair Avast installation. It should install the latest AOS version in to your Firefox. To repair Avast installation click on "Start", find "Control Panel" and click on it. A new window will open. In this window you should see the icon "Programs and Features". Again, you should click on it. Select 'Avast, then click on the 'Uninstall/Change'. When the avast! Setup Wizard appears, select the option "REPAIR" from the left pane. Restart your PC." This completed the remaining issue and my Avast Online Security plugin/add-on is now working.
