Are you using about:preferences

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>

key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

You have NVidia’s network access manager or Forceware Network Manager software installed. Disable / remove it. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/connectivity-crashing-firefox-43-update

Now fire fox keeps locking up, not responding, No page ie ask or google comes up when I start it my old tabs are gone. I tried the refresh option from troubleshoot, That's when it got worse. Tried starting in safe mode, by holding shift and starting fire fox, just starts normally. Today military websites that used to work all the time on firefox won't even be displayed. Have to use IE to open them. About to just reinstall fresh, losing everything, and turn off upgrades

For now, do not worry about your profile. Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox? We will restore it later. Let's get Firefox working.

Let's dp a full re-install.

Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link} Save the file. Then;

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

Look for, and rename any Mozilla or Firefox folders by adding .old to them.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner. Then run the installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done.

I do not understand the adding dot old, to them what will happen or what the registry scanner is. I need step by step with an explanation

more options

By adding .old to the folders, the computer will not be able to access those files, and when you install the downloaded version, it will not install on top of the old folders, which may have corrupt files.

A register scanner checks the register for bad entries, and removes them.

is there anyway I can save my profile? favorites passwords and the like . Just get rid of browser portion. I know I'm a pest

In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.

These can't get your data back, but will help in the future.

These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox

FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backups of files that you choose.

That's just it, my passwords are in the options tab. they will still log me on right now but I can't see them. The site/password feature is under options. If I uninstall completely no matter what they are gone, I can't save them

Firefox comes in two or more folders on all computers. They are;

Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And one folder in the profile of each user on the computer.

If you remove the Firefox folder, the user folders would not be affected.

Can you access the passwords via these steps?

  • click the "Site Identity Button" (padlock) at the left end of the location/address bar
  • click the arrow to expand the security message
  • click "More Information" to open "Tools > Page Info"
  • click "Permissions" to inspect and modify permissions
  • click "Security" to inspect and modify cookies and passwords in a standalone window

You can click "View Saved Passwords" in "Tools > Page Info > Security" to inspect the passwords for the domain in the currently selected tab.

You can backup files like these in the current Firefox profile folder to backup specific data.

  • bookmarks and history: places.sqlite
  • bookmark backups: JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder
  • SQLite files like cookies.sqlite (cookies) and formhistory.sqlite (saved form data)
  • logins.json and key3.db (decryption key) for Passwords saved in the Password Manager
  • cert8.db for stored intermediate certificates (Certificate Manager)
  • persdict.dat for words you added to the spelling checker dictionary
  • permissions.sqlite and possibly content-prefs.sqlite for Permissions and Site Preferences
  • sessionstore.js for open tabs and pinned tabs and tab groups

I followed the directions you gave. It does not come up like it does in options, instead of showing all passwords it only displays one password at a time ifg the site requires one, which in itself is great but I would have to know each site I visit and if it does have an associated password. Some sites I use I just open and have for so long that I do not recall if they ever asked for a password, and still some sites that I know require a password like my gmail which I really need, doesn't have a password associated. I know it has a password. A solution that firefox gave me first was a way to save all personal files just reinstall the browser. I can't find this way, but this would be my best chance. Fred answered how to do it
