I am able to download firefox, but will soon lose it to something that identifies itself as bing, bing does not show up anywhere that i am given the option to uninstall. tried uninstalling something called 'cortana' but it pops right back.

Bing is a search site that can be displayed in any of your browsers. Bing also is the preferred search site of Windows 10 if you use the main system search box (either by typing or by speaking).

To get a better idea of what's going on, could you try these things?

(1) In Firefox, click the Home button (or launch a new window using Ctrl+n) to see whether Bing has replaced your regular home page. What do you get?

If it's not what you want, could you check these methods in these articles to see whether that fixes it:

Does that work?

Note: If Firefox keeps your home page as long as its open, but loses your home page when you exit out and start it up again, or when you shut down and start Windows up again, there would be different suggestions in that case.

(2) In Firefox, try a search from the address bar or search bar and see what site you end up on. Is it the search site you want?

If it's not the site you want, check whether your default search engine is set correctly:

Then try again. Does it work?

(3) On the Windows task bar (the box that might mention asking Cortana), try a search and see whether it opens in Firefox and, if it does, what site it uses. What do you get?

Please update us on your progress.

Hi bequiaguy, Sorry you are having problems. Let's see if any of this helps.

Note text in blue is often a clickable ==> link <==

Bing is a Search Engine from Microsoft it is not a Browser like Firefox.

Either something is changing the search engine Firefox uses (Google, in many parts of the world outside China, or Yahoo in USA) by default. You should be able to change that back easily. See

Otherwise what is happening is you may be using another browser such as Internet Explorer or Edge. You may need to change it back so Windows knows you want to use Firefox as your default browser.

Cortana (also see) is a search assistant

Post back with how you get on and for any more help.
