Apps called Web2Pdf and Web2Pdf Converter, neither one works

more options

I'm using a Toshiba 64-bit laptop, running Windows 10 Home, 8gb memory, 1T hard drive.

In the past I've had the App Web2pdf and it worked very well and I really liked it. Just within the last couple of days, it has stopped working. I disabled it, rebooted, re-enabled it, didn't work. I uninstalled it, rebooted, re-installed it, didn't work. I then uninstalled that and installed an App called Web2pdf Converter, thinking it would do the same thing, but it wouldn't work either. I disabled it, rebooted, enabled it, and it didn't work.

When I click on the little icon for it on the menu bar, absolutely nothing happens. If I click on the little drop down arrow next to the icon, I get a drop down menu containing Options and Web2Pdf Converter Home Page. When I click on either one of these options, again absolutely nothing happens.

I've run out of ideas, so I'm here asking for help. Thanks for any suggestions you can provide.

The reviews on Web2PDF Converter echo your experience, saying it seems to have stopped working in Firefox 45.

If you like using that site to do your conversions, here is a possible alternative: they have a bookmarklet on this page:

http://www.web2pdfconvert.com/pdf-button#cid1

A bookmarklet is a script you save to your Bookmarks Toolbar or Bookmarks Menu. When you click it, the script sends the address and title of the page you're viewing to the site so it can generate a PDF, probably in a new tab (I haven't tried it myself).

Note: There are some sites that set a "content security policy" that blocks external scripts from running. On those sites, nothing will happen when you click the bookmark.

If you are interested in other approaches, your options are many, including:

(1) PDF print drivers -- print any page to PDF

On the plus side, this doesn't require sending any data to third party websites and if it's a page you generated (for example, a confirmation of a purchase), you can still PDF it.

On the minus side, PDFs generated this way may look different than the screen because sites often use a different layout for printing, and most links will not work (only links that display the actual URL will work, and maybe not if they split over two lines).

(2) Print pages to PDF extension

This add-on captures pages as they appear on the browser and uses all-local processing. It is no longer hosted on the Mozilla Add-ons site, but you can find it here:

http://printpagestopdf.hol.es/

Unfortunately, some security services block sites on hol.es servers, so hopefully it will get some new hosting in the near future.
