You are correct, Firefox does not store the addresses of open tabs in a private window the same way it stores the addresses of open tabs in a regular window. Therefore, when a private window is closed, I do not think there is any way to recover those tabs.

As an alternative, what do you think about using a regular window and erasing history when you're finished? Or do you need to keep some of your history and remove other history? Hmm... maybe someone has created an add-on to protect you from a crash in a private window. You could try searching here: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/

One tool that might be useful is an extension for creating private bookmarks, for those tabs you really cannot afford to lose: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/hush-private-bookmarking/

In PB mode no personal data is stored to the profile folder, so when a crash occurs when you are in PB mode then you will lose open tabs. That is the risk with using PB mode and if you gets crashes often then best is not to use PB mode.

If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more recent crash reports that start with "bp-".

You can find the report ID of recent crash reports on the "Help > Troubleshooting Information" page (about:support).

  • click the "All Crash Reports" button on this page to open the about:crashes page and see all crash reports.

Alternatively you can open about:crashes via the location/address bar.

Thank you for the crash report IDs.

The first is a Flash 19 plugin crash. Can you update to Flash 21? https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html

That page also has the "extended support release" of Firefox 18. Not sure if that one is more stable.

The second is a crash using Direct3D hardware acceleration. Please check for updates to your ATI/AMD graphics software driver: Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL.

The other report codes did not auto-link to the server. You might need to click them on the about:crashes page to submit them.

Finally, why are you still running Firefox 42?
