I also tried Safe Mode, without success.

I had Firefox version 44. Downloading did work some time ago, but it has been a while since I have tried to do it. Today I noticed this problem. So I uninstalled, deleted the Program files (x86) folder for Firefox, and did a fresh install of version 47. No joy.

I have Kaspersky Total Security. I temporarily turned it off, but still no joy.

One could navigate to a web page with embedded videos and an ADDITIONAL icon would appear toward the right end of the string of icons on the upper right of the screen. (The web page itself may or may not have a download "button".) If you clicked on that icon, a list of the videos embedded on that web page appeared. If you then clicked on an item in that list, the video would begin to download, and you could then use the Manage Downloads tools. Interestingly, although the embedded videos might be in Flash, mp4, etc. they would download as mp4.

When you use Firefox's Refresh feature, most of your add-ons are removed. You need to reinstall the video downloader you were using, possibly it was this one:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper/

If that doesn't look like the right one, can you find the Old Firefox Data folder on your desktop? Inside may be multiple old semi-randomly-named Firefox profile folders. Each profile folder would contain a file named extensions.json that lists the extension you had installed at that time. The format of this file is hard to read, but I can suggest some ways to ease the process if you need to try it.

I am glad you took the plunge and updated to Fx47 it is much safer using up to date software.

I am not too sure what you need when you say by "no manage downloads arrow & no icon to begin downloading". Downloads should usually start automatically.

As an example what happens if you right click on an picture/avatar on this forum and use the save image as option. That should download and save the small image used for the avatar

Are the downloads occurring but you do not see the arrow ? Or do no downloads or saves work ?

This article should help you sort out the problem

Thank you for the attempt, but unfortunately it didn't help. I have already been though that article. Of course, this is the difficulty in trying to describe some problems in just one or two sentences.

I said that I DO see the down arrow in the icons at the upper right of the screen. So I can get to the MANAGE downloads without any problem. The problem is in getting certain downloads.

I began with Firefox version 44.0.2 some time ago.

This capability is THE reason I began to use Firefox! I am a paid subscriber to a web-based training and analysis service for stock and options investing. Occasionally I would have a need to download one of their videos for study offline. Their staff specifically recommended Firefox for this purpose. I don't need this capability often, but when I do there is a rather strong incentive. I tried it two days ago, and the "extra icon" didn't appear, even though I was on a webpage with embedded videos. So, on the possibility that my old Firefox was just too far out of date, I uninstalled it and installed the newest version.

I have also tried starting Firefox in "safe mode" and disabling Kaspersky Total Security. I had Kaspersky before when everything worked, but it COULD have been changed, so I tried disabling it anyway,

This capability is THE reason I use Firefox, so I really hope there is a solution. I do appreciate any attempts to find a solution.

THANK YOU!!! That did it!

It was so long ago that I had forgotten that the Video Helper was an Add On. I have no idea why it went away. I didn't use Refresh until I was trying to debug why it was gone. Perhaps some combination of Microsoft Updates, Kaspersky updates, and who knows what else crashed it.

I just put about $10,,000 into 4-month option "straddles". It should play out in about two months. I am risking a 10% loss against a 65% to 70% chance of a "win" of as much as 30%. So to say that I am grateful to have all of my tools back is a HUGE understatement!!

Thank you again!
