Is there a standard way to switch ON or switch OFF the cursor?

I just bought a new Asus T100 Transformer netbook - because I love netbooks and they are no longer being made. After installing Firefox (and Irfanview and Avast antivirus) I no longer have a cursor to navigate the screen. I can just about make some things work with the cursor keys and with poking and swiping the screen like an iPad - but I want my cursor back! I'm lost without it!

Initially the cursor just stuck in one place and did not respond. Then after switching off and reloading it was gone - completely.

I did not select 'always use cursor keys to navigate within pages' under Options.

Look forward to someone's help. Thx.

Thanks for your ideas - couldn't follow them exactly because my computer had slightly different "lists" and how to action them - but I did get

- "best device already installed"
- tried re-installing anyhow and got "error, cannot install"
- then got "device cannot start (code 10)"

But while reading again what you had said I suddenly realized the cursor was there and working. Don't ask me what made it work!

Thanks anyway for "holding my hand". Just hope it continues working.

Hi   !

Using the keyboard,   follow these steps:

Windows Key-> type "Device Manager" without the quotes and hit enter.

Use the tab to highlight the list then the down arrow to scroll to Mice and other pointing devices. Use the right arrow to expand it, then the down arrow to select your device (Probably PS/2 Compatible Device). Hit Enter.

You should now have a screen titled "PS/2 Compatible Mouse Properties". Use the tab key to put a dotted square on the "General" tab at the top of the screen then the right arrow to put the square on the "Driver" tab.

Finally use the tab key to highlight "Roll Back Driver" and hit Enter.

Following this you will need to reboot and your mouse pointer should be restored.

Another way:

Here's a list of easy steps and all you need is the TAB and ARROW KEYS.

Hit your windows button so the pop up menu appears Type in: mouse & TouchPad setting.  Your computer will search for it. After selecting find 'additional mouse options' at the bottom of the screen ,select the last tab.  This should be the built in mouse pad. Select "enable device".  This should highlight your mouse pad or "smart pad".

After applying the setting it should appear.

Sure hope this will work for you   !
