Thunderbird automatically keeps a copy of all email addresses that I send a message to. How do I turn off this feature?

I manage a Facebook page for the New Mexico Genealogical Society, and also take care of the membership for over 800 members.

We are now going through membership renewal, and I'm having to send out massive emails to people.

Thunderbird is adding all these addresses to my "Address Book" and I'd like to turn off that feature.

How do I do that please?

thanks
