Firefox has started to creat a large number of files in my Local Settings\temp folder. These have 3 or 4 character names with the file extension of .tmp.

Looking at the content of these files indicates that they are Sqlite files. The date/time created is 08/06/2013 at 20:33

This is taking up a large amount of disc space which I have to clear manually.

I know that Firefox is creating the files since I have cleared the directory and started firefox and the files re-appear.

This only appears to be a significant problem on one of the users on my machine.

This only started a few months ago after a firefox upgrade. Can you please tell me how to stop this from happening?

Hello,

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu, choose History, and then "Clear Recent History...".
  2. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  3. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  4. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  5. Now click the "Clear Now" button.

Further information can be found in the Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox article.

or Clear history when Firefox closes

also make sure to use ESR with XP.

You wouldn't normally see these special SQLite temp files because they are hidden if I remember correctly. If they aren't removed automatically then you may have security software interfering and keep a lock/handle on these file.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen or hold down the Shift key) to see if that has effect.

Thanks you bygabyga - although I had been deleting history on a regular basis I had been leaving cookies. Now that I have deleted cookies firefox no longer seems to be creating these files. So the problem has gone away for the time being.

Thanks again for your help and assistance

I am afraid that this problem has come back!

I regularly delete all history but a considerable number of these files remain. the files are 448KB and is is quite common for around 2000 to be created a day which is a significant use of my hard disc!

Any other suggestions
