I am using 32 bit firefox 54.0.1 on windows10. I want to preview pdf files within firefox same window, pdf files that are available on web as links. How can i do that ?

I have done these already - uninstallled adobe and go in preference applications- next to pdf tried to select preview in firefox but it did not showd up there. unistalled firefox again no cant even see pdf as content there any more. how can i get it back ?

somehow if I managed to get pdf content type back on preferences and set default "preview in firefox" - after this how can i make pdf files open in same window of firefox - i dont want pdf files to open in next tab within same firefox- i want pdf to open on same window and same tab on top of web page like it will look like it is a web page, how can i do that, can someone please tell me this?

Can you see if this question offers help to your issue?

Basicaly you should delete the mimeTypes.rdf file in your profile folder when Firefox is closed. Chances are the file’s default settings are not restored properly after uninstalling a PDF plugin or add-on. However make sure there is no setting in any Adobe product that causes its plugin to be enabled and take precedence over the Firefox setting for PDF files in the Applications section.

As far as I know, PDF should open in the same tab by default, and it does so for me when Preview in Firefox is selected so if otherwise, it may happen because of an installed plugin (i.e. the current situation.) Could you report back if this is not the case?

What you are looking for in "Options/Preferences -> Applications" is "Portable Document Format (PDF)".

If Firefox doesn't open the PDF file at all, but offers to download the file then this usually means that the sends sends the file with a generic or otherwise unsupported content type (i.e. not application/pdf).

If the server specifies a target window then Firefox will open the file in a new tab or new window. You can divert this action to the same tab, but this will affect all links with a target attribute.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

I deleted all adobe products from control panel, then deleted Default window application:- Reader, as it was taking over to others after deleting adobe, when I deleted Reader then I deleted MimeTypes.rdf after closing Firefox-- In the end - default PDF opener was TWINUI- which is also windows default- and I can delete it, and I dont know How to change its settings so firefox can even display "Preview in Firefox" option next to pdf. please let me know if I can do some other thing with it.
