Thunderbird used to be great, so much so I got my chequebook out to send a donation. Now though when I load up and go to sign in to my google (do no evil) gmail account google opens up a login screen which just doesn't do anything.

How can I log in to my gmail account with Thunderbird bypassing this new google (do no evil) stupidity ?
