Where is npr.org? My bookmarks and web-search links don't work.

This ( npr.org ) is my homepage, and I have a number of bookmarks to articles there. They worked yesterday, but only give me a blank page today, 10-20-17 at noon. I searched both duckduckgo and google for NPR, but none of those links yielded anything better. I cleared the history after each attempt, and typed npr.org in the address bar, still nothing. All my other bookmarks that I tried work fine. Weird and worrisome!

Thank you for any help you can offer.

I had no problem with http://npr.org/

Are you using any add-ons/programs that block content?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Does it help to use www? The server redirects from npr.org to http://www.npr.org/ and perhaps your Firefox isn't redirecting.

Firefox does have a redirect block designed to help users of assistive technologies such as screen readers. To check on whether that got turned on:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste access and pause while the list is filtered

(3)If the accessibility.blockautorefresh preference is bolded and "modified" or "user set" to true, double-click it to restore the default value of false

Success?

For Firefox 52 ESR you can use that same method, or:

  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
  • Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

In the left column, click Advanced. Then on the right side, with the "General" mini-tab active, make sure the following is not selected (box is not checked): "Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page".

Success?

If you use a bookmark then navigate to the web page starting with the main page or the sign in page in case there is a problem with this bookmark.

I tried all the fixes offered; my thanks to everyone who offered. Starting in Safe Mode fixed the problems. So after I did a regular re-start, I shut off HTTP Everywhere, and bingo, the links all work now. I'm still running Ad Blocker Plus and Privacy Badger, but the problems have not re-surfaced.

Thanks again!
