A user in another thread reported that clicking on a link to view the source site would show the destination address in the address bar but the page didn't actually load. Is that your experience, or do you not even get that far?

If you haven't already, could you try "the usual":

If a site is generally known to work in Firefox, these are general suggestions to try when it stops working correctly:

Cache and Cookies: When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Clear Firefox's Cache

See: How to clear the Firefox cache

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes. If you do not see the number going down on the page, you can reload it using Command+r to check progress.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • click the padlock or "i" icon in the address bar, then the ">" button, then More Information, and finally the "View Cookies" button

In the dialog that opens, the current site should be pre-filled in the search box at the top of the dialog so you can remove that site's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Testing in Firefox's Safe Mode: In Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?

This didn't fix the problem. Other sites are working, but Pinterest on Firefox is not. When I click on a page, it attempts to load and I get a blank page with a tiny black or blue square in the left corner or I get a "connection not secure" message after clicking on the padlock with red line icon. I am able to use it, without problem, on Chrome.

If the site address is http, then the connection not secure just indicates that and it's not the cause of the issue.

I don't know what the square is.

Will the page load if you try either of these?

  • click in the address bar and press Return to reload the address
  • click in the address bar and press Alt+Return to load the address in a new tab (this is a Windows key combination, so I don't know if it works on Mac)
  • copy/paste the address from the tab where it won't load to a new tab, and try it there

The last suggestion did work; however, being that it is 2017, I do not believe this is a viable solution. To "copy and paste" the address into a new tab every time is a foolish solution. It appears to me that your latest update to Firefox is an utter disaster and needs to be fixed. Chrome is looking better and better with each ridiculous "solution" to the problem I brought to your attention. How about this? You tell me how to get back to the previous version of Firefox before it was ruined.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, I'm not giving you solutions, I'm troubleshooting, and I appreciate your feedback.

All I know so far is that HTTP addresses you can load perfectly fine from the address bar do NOT work when Firefox requests them using a link on Pinterest.

We've had three reports about Pinterest in the past 24 hours, so it seems to be a special case. Was there another site where you click links and they do not load?

If you want to use an older version of Firefox, see:

If anyone else is able to piece it together, I'll try to share it back to you.
