update Thunderbird with command line

more options

Hi,

I have lot of computers where i want to update Thunderbird.

This computers have various versions of Thunderbirds (17, 24, 31, 38, 45..).

For various reasons i don't want/can update with a new installer.

I search solution to do this update with command line or by script.

I see this executable in installation folder of Thunderbird : maintenanceservice.exe updater.exe uninstall/helper.exe Are there options with this executable to update automatically Thunderbird ?

Or is it possible to deploy and active mozilla maintenance service alone ?

Thanks

I am looking into solving this problem too.

I answered on the tb-enterprise mailing list, however I'll answer here for the sake of more exposure.

For several reasons I can't use WSUS / other Windows-based solutions for now.

For automatic updates I use Ninite Pro in a small installation (~30 workstations). i don't like the fact that it requires registering a service on each PC with an external web service. This provides a good dashboard to check all workstations, keep in mind this is a commercial paid service.

I am looking into using Chocolatey which you may want to try too. There is a Thunderbird package there, I haven't tested this yet.

While looking for this I also found a detailed article on updating extensions, perhaps that can provide other hints on how to best go about this.

Some things may have changed since that article was last updated in 2015.

Also, I'd recommend you test using version 60, so that anything you develop can be used in future versions.

Hi thanks for your response, But I don't search solution to deploy (i already have one), just solution to update with an existing installation (not use an installer/package who which would require regular monitoring)

Regards.

Problem is not deploy solution. I use WPKG. I search solution to update with no installer just automatic check on mozilla server with no user interaction and with command-line.

I see a thread in the Thunderbird enterprise mailing list for a florent lagoda. Are we covering the same territory for the same person here.

Yes it's me ;)

Then I think we will drop this thread. You will not get better advice here. Those that actually deploy in the field are the ones answering you on the list. Much better than our "theoretical" knowledge.

Wayne and I are both on the list and Fabian probably should be if he is not already.

It's still useful for this to be discovered on SUMO but yes, it's the same.
